US Reports Missing Service Members During Training Exercise in Morocco

(MENAFN) Two American service members are reported missing near the Cap Draa Training Area, close to Tan Tan in Morocco, while taking part in the large-scale African Lion 2026 military exercise, according to reports.

Authorities say joint search and rescue efforts are now in progress, with US, Moroccan, and other multinational forces deploying air, land, and sea resources to locate the missing personnel. Officials note that the situation is still being examined and that recovery operations continue.

According to reports, the disappearance is linked to an accident that is not connected to the exercise itself.

African Lion 2026, which runs from mid-April through early May, is considered one of the continent’s most extensive military drills. It brings together troops from over 30 nations under the coordination of the United States and Morocco, with additional activities hosted in countries such as Tunisia, Ghana, and Senegal.

The exercise incorporates advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, and is designed to strengthen military preparedness, improve counterterrorism efforts, and tackle regional security challenges, as stated by reports.
